Gym in Timonium, MD Built for Women Over 50
29 Again Custom Fitness is a private gym at 2181 Greenspring Drive in Timonium, Maryland, and women 50 and over are the only clients I train. Every program here is written around one woman’s own joints, her own history, and the things she wants to be able to do. I’m Stephen Holt, I’m the only trainer in the building, and I’ve owned this gym since 2010.
Most gyms give every member the same program. That program doesn’t account for joint pain, muscle loss, or the changes that happen after 50. You need strength training built for those conditions.

29 Again Custom Fitness is a 3,000 square foot private training gym, not a membership floor.
Serving Timonium, Lutherville, Cockeysville and Towson
The gym sits in the 21093 ZIP code, which covers both Timonium and Lutherville. Clients drive in from Cockeysville, Hunt Valley, Padonia, Towson, the Greenspring Valley and the surrounding parts of Baltimore County.
There’s no gym in Cockeysville or Towson that trains only women over 50. Clients from those towns drive to Timonium for that reason.
Who This Gym Is For
This is a gym for women over 50 who are done with programs built for somebody else.
You’ll fit here if:
- You want to get stronger without making your joints worse.
- You’ve tried a big-box gym and found nobody there understood how your body works now.
- You’re already active, walking or taking classes, and you aren’t doing the strength training that protects muscle and bone.
- You want a coach who has been in this industry since 1979.
- You want to keep carrying groceries, climbing stairs, and catching yourself if you trip.
This isn’t the right gym if you want somewhere to drop in whenever you like. You book every session, and I coach you through it.
Why Women Over 50 Choose 29 Again Custom Fitness
“I need to get stronger without making my joints worse.”
Muscle around a joint supports that joint. Building that muscle is one of the most reliable ways to reduce joint discomfort. The programming here loads the muscle while limiting the force on the joint.
“I don’t want to feel out of place in a gym.”
This is a private gym, not an open floor. Everyone training here is a woman over 50, and each one is working through a program written for her.
“I’ve tried other workouts and they didn’t work.”
Most programs stop working because the weight never changes. Your program here starts from what your Smart Start screening finds, and the load increases as you get stronger.
What Custom Fitness Training Actually Is
Custom Fitness Training is the name for how I coach here. I’m a personal trainer doing personal training, and it just isn’t one-on-one.
There may be one, two or three other women in the gym at the same time as you. Your workout has nothing to do with theirs. Each of you is working her own program, built from her own screening, and I coach all of you through it.
Nobody leads the room and nobody follows along. You’re measured against yourself, never against the woman next to you. That’s what self-to-self means here.
You come in at a scheduled time, once, twice or three times a week depending on your membership.
The 3-4-5 Total Body Strength System
Your program runs on the system I built: three planes of motion, four muscle sling systems, and five movement patterns.
The five patterns are push, pull, rotation, shifting your center of gravity, and single-leg work. Shifting your center of gravity covers the work that moves your whole body up and down or side to side, so lunges, squats and step-ups all belong there.
The four slings are the Anterior Oblique, the Posterior Oblique, the Deep Longitudinal and the Lateral. Most personal trainers have never heard of them. I train yours, because your trunk has to stay stable when you carry something heavy up a flight of stairs.
The principles don’t change. What changes is what you do and how much you lift, as you get stronger.

Two Personal Trainer of the Year awards, twenty-three years apart. More about my background.
Inside the Gym
The gym is 3,000 square feet and private. There’s no membership floor, no sign-up sheet, and no queue at a front desk.
Everyone in the building is a woman over 50 who booked her time, and I’m the only trainer here. That’s why the room stays quiet enough for me to watch how every joint is moving while you work.
What Clients Say
Stephen has helped me improve my golf swing by increasing my range of motion with well-chosen stretching and strengthening exercises. I am now able to drive a ball much farther than my size would previously allow. I’ve been with Stephen for almost seven years, and he has helped me stay fit by continually enhancing and modifying my exercise program to adjust to my aging body’s changing needs.
Carolyn Mugno
I have been training with Stephen for over ten years now. During that time, Stephen has truly molded me into a stronger and healthier person. I love coming in each time and having a different workout routine that is designed just for me.
Heather Harvison
This is the only workout that has ever worked for me.

Everyone Starts With Smart Start
I understand you’re eager to get started, but I can’t let you just drop in and start lifting. Every client goes through Smart Start first, so that I have the data I need to build your customized program.
Get started in four easy steps:
- Answer the questionnaire. Three or four minutes, covering your history and what you want to be able to do.
- Pick your time. Submitting the questionnaire takes you straight to the calendar, so you can choose a day and time that fits your schedule.
- Come in for your Smart Start. We sit down in my office first and talk through your goals, your health history and your exercise history. Then we go out on the floor for the screening: the Functional Movement Screen, a musculo-skeletal screen, and photographs of your posture. Those show me how you actually move, which is something no questionnaire can tell me.
- Then you train, on a program I write for you, at the times you booked. We book your first session before you leave.
That’s why there’s no drop-in option. Nobody can build a program around your history and your joints without screening them first.
Take a Free Week First
You don’t have to decide anything today. Take a free week and find out.
Your Smart Start is day one of the free week. The week runs exactly seven days from there and includes up to two coached sessions, on a program I build for you, at no cost and with nothing to cancel afterward.
That week answers the questions a website can’t:
- You find out how the exercises feel on your knees and shoulders.
- You see what it’s like to have someone watching your form instead of guessing at it.
- You meet the women who train here and see that they’re your age.
- You find out whether a room this size suits you better than a floor with two hundred strangers on it.
Most people know by the second session. Some know right after their Smart Start.
Or call 410-429-7029.
Common Questions
Is 29 Again Custom Fitness a women-only gym?
Yes. Women 50 and over are the only clients I train, and that’s been true since I bought the gym in 2010.
Can I drop in, or do I have to book?
You book every session, and there are no drop-ins or guests. Nobody trains here without a Smart Start screening first, so I know what your joints will tolerate before you pick up a weight.
Is this a class or small group training?
No. Custom Fitness Training is personal training that isn’t one-on-one. One, two or three other women may be in the gym at the same time as you, and each one is working her own program. Nothing about your workout depends on theirs.
Is it like bootcamp or CrossFit?
No. Bootcamp gives the whole room the same prescription on a clock. Your program comes from your own screening, and the load goes up as you get stronger. The equipment isn’t what makes something a bootcamp. The programming is.
What if I have arthritis, a sore knee or a shoulder that hurts?
That describes most of the women who train here. Muscle around a joint supports that joint, and building it may help reduce discomfort. Your screening tells me which positions and ranges to work in and which ones to stay out of, and I watch every joint every session and adjust as we go.
I haven’t trained in years. Am I too out of shape to start?
No. The screening exists so we can start from where your body actually is. You’re measured against yourself, never against the woman next to you.
What are your hours?
Monday and Wednesday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You book your own times inside those hours, once, twice or three times a week.
How much does it cost?
My rate matches what local trainers charge for one-on-one work, and I’ll go through the numbers with you at your Smart Start. Take the free week first. You’ll know whether this is right for you before money comes up.
Where is the gym, and which towns do you serve?
The gym is at 2181 Greenspring Drive, Timonium, MD 21093. Clients drive in from Timonium, Lutherville, Cockeysville, Hunt Valley, Padonia, Towson, the Greenspring Valley and the surrounding parts of Baltimore County.
How do I start?
Answer the questionnaire, which takes three or four minutes, then pick your Smart Start time on the calendar that comes up next. Your Smart Start is day one of your free week.
